  • Zhang, Xi-guang & Pratt, Brian R. (1993). Early Cambrian Ostracode Larvae with a Univalved Carapace. Science 262, 93-94. Washington.
This paper is somewhat difficult to understand since there are no ostracodes known from the Cambrian, and the authors compare the reticulate surface pattern with the head shield of a "phaselus larva" of trilobites described by Fortey & Morris (1978, Palaeontology 21(4), 823-833). However, Fortey & Morris (1978) compare this epidermal cellular pattern with the cell pattern of the osmoregulatory dorsal organ on top of the shield of an Artemia nauplius, completely misunderstanding the dorsal organ as a "carapace" and likewise misunderstanding this as an evidence for a similarity between crustacean nauplius and trilobite phaselus.
