Objectives and Aims
We aim at demonstrating that the combination of zoological and palaeontological expertise enlarges the knowledgebase of palaeontological data significantly.
With this, we want to demonstrate that fossil evidence in form of once lived organisms is important, if not essential, for the understanding of evolution of life and phylogeny.
Our main issues include:
-
Documenting the fossils as detailed as possible
-
Improvement of methods and technologies applicable to our studies
-
Concentration of expertise, particularly on 'Orsten'-related topics
-
Research on
-
biological (incl. life habits), functional morphological and ecological aspects
-
systematic, phylogenetic and evolutionary aspects
-
preservation, taphonomy, stratigraphy, and sedimentary environments
-
Exploration of new localities on a worldwide scale
-
Collaboration between the CORE membera and with other international colleagues
-
Discussion of aspects around the 'Orsten'
-
Application of knowledge derived from 'Orsten' material to fossils also from other lagerstätten
-
Dissemination of information on the 'Orsten'
and, last not least,
-
Training of new students in the field.
